2003 WHOLESALE
MAIL ORDER HOSTA LIST
New
for 2003:
At Green Hill Farm we offer not just new
hostas but hostas that sell. ‘Cracker Crumbs’ is a beautiful mini, with a fast
growth rate and good substance, and is the first of our “crumb” series of
miniature hostas. Look for ‘Cookie Crumbs’ and ‘Bread Crumbs’ in the near
future.
‘Orange Marmalade’ is a rare hosta
that emerges beautifully variegated with a leaf center similar to the color of
‘June’, and then instead of fading in color with summer’s heat it takes on the
look of ‘Paul’s Glory’ with the center becoming yellow or creamy in more light.
To top it off, between these two brightly variegated phases the leaf center
turns an unusual orange gold! Here is a hosta that is at its peak from emergence
to frost.
We are currently in the process of filing a patent application for ‘Orange Marmalade’. We welcome inquiries about our licensing program for those who wish to asexually propagate our newest hosta. |
Unusual,
even weird, hostas are now highly sought by collectors. ‘Hart’s Tongue’ and
‘Crocodile Rock’ are two very vertical hostas with upright leaves and very
straight scapes. Both become more puckered as they age in the garden.
Two new gold hostas add riotous
early spring color to the garden. ‘Gilt by Association’ is an unusual ruffled
seedling from H. pycnophylla with
almost blue flowers. ‘Tortilla Chip’ is the all gold sport of
‘Stained Glass’ and stays bright yellow all season. Both bring that “screaming
yellow” color to the garden center in spring.
We also have several new variegated
hostas. ‘Unchained Melody’ is a very large, wide margined H. nigrescens ‘Elatior’ seedling from Jim Wilkins. ‘Toy Soldier’ is
a uniquely bordered sport of ‘Blue Cadet’ and ‘Ghost Spirit’ is a misted
centered sport of ‘Valentine Lace’. All
three have the good characteristics of
their famous parents.
With its success last year we are continuing our collection of
Classic Hosta Selections. Some are hostas that
are always in demand but frequently take an extra season to finish from
a liner. Others, like H. nigrescens,
are becoming rare in the liner trade.
This year we are offering as Classic
Hosta Selections, H. nigrescens,
‘Sagae’, and ‘September Sun’. Several more will be available in June and will
be featured on our spring list. Order
early to insure availability.
At Green Hill Farm, Inc. we are
dedicated to supplying new and rare hostas to the wholesale trade. Many of
these plants may be new to you so feel free to call and ask questions, we are
also in the information business. We also have a limited number of other
hostas available. Look for our availability lists throughout the shipping
season.
Remember,
our Bare Root Hostas are not liners. They are well rooted, ready to fill a one gallon pot or larger and sell this
season. Many of these will be pictured on our website, www.HostaHosta.com.
